Pusha T ft. Tyler, The Creator ‘Trouble On My Mind’

I grew up on Memphis hip-hop radio. I bet if a random person were to get in a random black person’s car, K97 and Hot 107.1 would be set as their preset. I’m sure other races listen to those two stations but I don’t have a good consesus to come to a proper decision based on that, but I digress.
The two Memphis hip-hop stations that we do have has to be two of the worst hip-hop radio stations in the United States, no disrespect to the DJ’s, but if you take the time to actually listen to them you will see that they play whatever is on the Billboard top 30 R&B/Hip-Hop songs and maybe a couple local people on shuffle the whole day. Every other day they’ll introduce a new record from a top artist who you know will eventually enter the billboard top 30 and it keeps the cycle repeating.
Did you know that Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar five years ago, and yet since then no other rap artist has actually blew up in Memphis on a national level. The reasoning behind this or at least to me is because they all sound the same and all talk about the same stuff, over and over. I think this all starts with the radio stations.
Since I’ve had the internet my music tastes have expanded like a mofo. There is so much good stuff out there yet the radio refuses to play it, one thing that was and still is odd to me is when a DJ starts talking you will hear an instrumental from another artist that they have never played before. I know the DJ’s are aware of other music existing because they are DJ’s. That’s they’re job, to listen to music, but why do they refuse to play knew things that are outside the box of stuff they usually play? Can I get a Curren$y song maybe?
The song at he top is a new song by Pusha T and Tyler the Creator. Pusha T is from the popular group Clipse whose last group album Till the Casket Drops came out in October 2009. All the time before then I don’t think I heard one single from that album played on the radio. (Maybe “I’m Good feat. Pharell) but that’s a huge maybe. Tyler The Creator is from OFWGKTA and has been kind of blowing up recently but you wouldnt know that because the radio stations don’t play his records at all. The song they just realesed is called Trouble on My Mind and it’s very good but if you live in Memphis and don’t follow the internet’s hip-hop social consciousness you’re never going to know this record exists.
